HOLISTIC MASSAGE
A complementary therapy which involves the manipulation of the muscles and soft tissues of the body to promote muscle suppleness and relaxation. This therapy is also known as Swedish or Therapeutic Massage. This deeper type of massage works all the muscle groups, removing stiffness and soreness, easing tension and restoring the proper function of the muscles.
Holistic Massage is particularly effective at increasing oxygen flow in the blood, aiding the release of toxins and tensions in the muscles, calming emotions and physical stress and recharging the body's immune system. It helps to alleviate discomfort, pain, tight and tender muscles, muscle spasm and general stress - therefore promoting health, whilst generating a deep sense of well being.
It can improve the function of the circulatory system, lymphatic system, muscular, skeletal and nervous system and in so doing improves the rate at which the body can recover from injury and illness. Massage enables the body to fully relax and unwind. It is therefore helpful in the management and control of stress creating a wonderful feeling of calm and well being.
Treatment :
After a short consultation has taken place, when the therapist will ask the client some health questions, the client will be left to undress to their underwear and asked to lie on the massage couch under towels. Client dignity is maintained at all times. Grape seed oil, mixed with either Lavender for a relaxing massage, or citrus for a more invigorating massage, depending on the client’s choice and mood, will be used as a massage medium.
The therapist will concentrate on making sure the client is relaxed but at the same time will be looking to relieve tension areas as and when found during the massage. When the massage has been completed the client will be left to dress. Aftercare advice will then be given at the end of treatment such as; drink plenty of water to encourage the release of harmful toxins from the body and rest for at least half an hour after massage.
REFLEXOLOGY
A therapy in which the nerve endings, primarily in the feet, are stimulated by specific massage techniques to effect changes in another part of the body and thereby create good health and help overcome disease. Reflexology is sometimes known as Zone Therapy as the body is divided into different zones represented by a point in the foot (and hand).
Nerve endings are imbedded in the feet and hands that then travel to the spinal cord and to various parts of the body. Stimulating these nerve endings thereby helps promote relaxation, improve circulation, stimulate vital organs in the body and encourage the body's natural healing processes. Unlike conventional medicine, reflexology works on the underlying problems within the body and works through the body's nervous system.
Treatment :
An overall foot massage will be applied using a non-scented cream. Then light, but firm, compression massage, using the thumb, will be applied to the soles and uppers of your feet. During treatment some areas of the foot may feel a little tender and these will correlate with the problem areas in the body.
Sometimes lactic acid can be felt in the foot in the form of little crystals. This can be crushed and reabsorbed into the body using small circular pressure movements, thereby allowing the lymph system to eliminate the waste product. Aftercare advice will be given at the end of treatment.
INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
A treatment based on ancient Indian Ayurvedic techniques involving work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. Indian Head Massage is used by therapists to help reduce stress and fatigue, increase mental clarity, and relax and rejuvenate the client. It is also used to aid the condition and health of the scalp and hair.
Treatment :
The client will be asked to sit on a low back chair. A variety of massage movements are used to relieve accumulated tension, stimulate circulation and restore joint movement. No oil or creams are used in this treatment.
